PhotOn Festival has always dedicated a significant part of its programming to support photography made by authors who are still not known by the public through the PhotOn call for novice authors, that structure all activities relating to this group, such as the call of the IV scholarship PhotOn Festival, portfolio viewing sessions, as well as projections of new authors. Within this framework we launched one more year the scholarship PhotOn Festival IV.
in this way, the requirements to participate in this call are:
1. Be new authors. Shall be considered novel to any author, regardless of age, whose professional career is not consolidated, did not receive any award of importance or seen their work published in media of importance in the story section. The organization is responsible for checking with the biography of the author and the public information available the curriculum of all selected.
2. Only unpublished works will be accepted, i.e., that have not been reported or through publications, or exhibitions, or have been awarded in other similar competitions. Works with more than two years old will not be accepted. The works completed before January 2012 will not be admitted. Yes will be admitted those who continue in creation process regardless of their start date.
3. The author takes care of all the responsibilities arising from claims by third-party rights in images and/or claims made by the subject protagonists of the story, whether natural or legal persons.
as photojournalist work will only be accepted or social document, so are excluded immediately those who do not fulfil this important and essential requirement.
nominations can occur until March 31, 2014. It must be in digital format to noveles@photonfestival.com with the subject “New authors call” mail.
documentation · The author has the ability to deliver a single photographic series or report.
· Digital files in format jpeg of 1,500 pixels longest side.
. 15 pictures at most and 10 least, all belonging to the same article or series.
· Brief dossier that includes a brief biography and curriculum vitae of the author, as well as a text on the work, if necessary, stating at least the title of the series.
. Any report in video format or another format not described in these rules will not be accepted.
one time after the deadline of admission of inscriptions, the Organization will select 10 finalists, who will participate in the days of viewing of portfolios. In them, they will have the opportunity to edit and correct your work with the members of the jury, composed of the speakers at the festival, leading experts and professionals in the field of Photojournalism. Also, selected will be part of the programming of nocturnal projections in the context of PhotOn Festival 2014.
finalists communication and publication of those selected to participate in the screenings of portfolios and nocturnal projections will be on April 20, 2014.
format works for viewing:
· Number of images: up to 40 photos belonging to a series or thematic unit.
· Dimensions: Side longer image must have a minimum of 10 cm and maximum of 15 cm.
lengths. Presentation of audiovisual for viewing format:
· Duration and video format: AVI format and maximum 4 minutes.
Photon Festival reserves the right to reject applications that do not comply with the requirements and conditions specified in this call.
the deadline for the presentation of audiovisual for nocturnal projections, (only selected) will be on April 30, 2014.
during portfolio viewing the Organization shall ensure that each of the selected available while viewing and your project can be so duly reviewed by all members of the jury.
from among 10 finalists, the jury will choose an author who will be awarded the scholarship PhotOn IV for novice authors during portfolio viewing sessions. The award will consist of the production of the winning work in the Festival and subsequent exposure on the call from next year along with the invited photographers work. The award will be announced at the last session of screenings and the web starting from the next day.
the finalists will be projected in the programming of night screenings, which take place at night within the official programme of the festival.
the jury, formed by members of the Organization of the PhotOn Festival and the authors participating in the official section of the festival, will assess:
· Thematic unit of the series and adaptation of technical and formal elections to the subject.
· Themes that inquire in little visible aspects of the society
, providing an approach to those realities which are not usually subject to the attention of the media.
· Quality, solidity and coherence of the proposal.
